PRAGATI Project aims to promote resilient and sustainable urban growth through DRR capacity building of local authorities and active involvement of the private sector and local population. It will focus on two urban Municipalities: Changunarayan and Shankharapur in Kathmandu Valley.
Shankharapur is a municipality in the Central development region of Kathmandu District in the Bagmati Zone of Nepal. The new municipality with 9 wards was formed by merging six existing villages; Bajrayogini, Indrayani, Lapsiphedi, Nanghlebhari, Pukhulachhi and Suntol on 02 Dec 2014. Shankharapur municipality covers 57 square kilometer area and has 28875 population among which 14727 are female and 14148 are male.

There were 98 deaths and 196 injury during the earthquake of 2015.
Shri Bhagyodaya Higher Secondary School was established around 2047 BS. Mr. Lakash Shrestha has been working in this school for 25 years now as the principal. The school operates from nursery to undergraduate level. There are 784 students studying from grade nursery to grade 10, around 100 in high school and total 100 in the Bachelor’s level.
The earthquake of 2072 did not have impact in the physical infrastructure, but there was huge impact on the social and psychological aspect to the children of the community. The disaster resulted in death of two students, but around 90% of the children were victims and traumatized.
Fulmoon Baniya has been in the khuwa making business since last 32 years. It was initially started by her father and now she has undertaken the business. Her whole family is in the same business. The dish is famous amongst the locals.
Ms. Baniya recalls the loss caused by the earthquake. The collected milk was all spilled and burnt as they all left home seeking safety. When the family returned home after three days, the collected milk was spoilt. There was no loss to anyone in the family except the farmhouse.
Though the business has gone down after the earthquake, Ms. Baniya believes in hardship for good future and her family is the biggest achievement for her.
Interlocking Construction
Nick moved from Australia in 2015 after earthquake. In order to create jobs for the youths and help nepal for reconstruction and his experience in construction, he came with an idea of Interlocking construction. Interlock is an eco-friendly product, and is made using the natural resources. In the earthquake belt countries like nepal it can be used to build earthquake resistant infrastructure in minimum cost. It can also provide employment to the locals.

Sushma Memorial Hospital is well known for plastic and reconstructive surgery. It was saturday
April 25, 2015 and when the 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, the hospital was not at all
ready for the calamity. Dr.Jasman Shakya, one of the director of Sushma Koirala Memorial
Hospital is very proud that the team available was able to respond so quickly to the earthquake.
The hospital did not bear any physical damage to the earthquake. The hospital managed some
spaces outdoor & in the garage for the treatment.
